At the end of this interview : http://www.thenational.ae/article/20081215/ART/152371247/1007
Gilliam says he has a project "he's playing around", produced by Richard Zanuck... "It’s a small film, but it’s a very smart script. I tend not to solicit anything, to be quite honest, so don’t ask any more questions!”
I remember we already talked about a mysterious small film before Parnassus was shot (there : http://www.philstubbs.com/dreamsboard/cgi-bin/teemz/teemz.cgi?board=_
master&action=opentopic&forum=Future_Gilliam_Projects&topic=66
) but I doubt it's the same...
I don't know when he will film this(As I wrote in the title, I think it might be a small project for 2009 if Depp isn't available for Quixote) but the fact that he has a producer and that it is Zanuck tends to make believe that it will get made.

Here's all I can gather on the topic:

But I have some leads for some more.

There : http://www.all-story.com/extra/issue14/notes.html it says that Rushin was working on "feature-length screenplay inspired by his story "Call"" (readable here : http://www.all-story.com/extra/issue14/call.html ). I believe it's quite non-information but maybe it's a hint (anyway, my low english prevents me from reading the short story).

I have been pointed towards Rushin's story Vow. It isn't the same plotwise but apparently displays the same sensibility as Zero Theorem.

Which, having now read Vow, is clearly a good thing.

"Zero theorem" debuts filming 1st may 2009, with Billy Bob Thornton as lead character... I don't know why there isn't anything about it in english but it's on this french website : http://www.toutlecine.com/cinema/l-actu-cinema/0000/tournages-0000673
9-le-sens-de-la-vie-selon-terry-gilliam.html

It's saying that it's about a genious in computers who is trying to answer to questions about the absurdity and the meaning of life...

Here is an English article on the film:

http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/01/24/terry-gilliams-zero-theorem-to-sh
oot-in-may-billy-bob-thornton-to-star/

It references the article Bruttenholm posted as its source. Providing a start date of 1 May 2009 for filming.

I knew having Tout Le Cinema on my RSS feeds was going to pay off one day.

Somebody else who reads this site knows more about this film than I do. Speak up!

I'm so excited.

By the way - a commenter a /Film has said that the project was delayed at an earlier juncture due to Billy Bob's "fear of antiques".

That is probably the most hilarious phobia I've ever heard of.

Nevertheless this is great news. I'm glad Gilliam is able to be this productive. And the concept of a reclusive genius trying to figure out the absurdity of life sounds like a tailormade fit for him.

I don't know if Billy Bob will have to shave his head for the role of Qohen, but he's constantly referred to as bald in the script. Also called a goth at one point, which is interesting.

Perhaps Scarlet Johansson is a great choice for Bainsley; I can't wait to see who they discover for Bob - a young male, probably so young he'll be an unknown or near as.

I expect the role of Joby to be a previous Gilliam collaborator.

The closest of Rushin's stories to Zero Theorem is Call. Check it out by Googling it.

More soon...

How did I get the script? Might as well ask how I got the Parnassus script.

Looks very weird, this one
I didn't quite understand (I'm french, that's my excuse), if it took place in our world or in another, but that's not a problem, I can't wait and watch the film...
The way you review it, it looks like something Philip K. Dick could have written...

How? How? HOW?

Er... that's not really something I can share but if you have imagination to spare, you might use it to conjure up images of me, upside down, hanging on wires in Gilliam's secret vault.

Nicolas Chartier's high-flying Los Angeles financing and sales company Voltage Pictures arrives at EFM with its most prestigious slate to date led by new work from Robert Redford and Terry Gilliam.

Chartier is in Berlin to introduce buyers to Robert Redford's romantic thriller The Company You Keep that is ready to shoot in July following a long gestation period that had previously seen it set up at Fox Searchlight.

CAA now represents North American rights to the big budget starring vehicle for Redford, who will direct and produce through his Wildwood label alongside Kingsgate Films' Greg Shapiro and Chartier.

Based on Neil Gordon's 2003 novel, The Company You Keep tells of a former radical activist who goes on the run for the sake of his young daughter after his identity is revealed.

Meanwhile Terry Gilliam is preparing a May 1 start date on the fantasy Zero Theorem, which will star Billy Bob Thornton and is being produced by Richard and Dean Zanuck.

The story revolves around a reclusive computer genius plagued with existential angst who is hard at work on a project designed to discover the meaning or life or its lack thereof. CAA is again handling North American rights.

Gilliam is currently in post-production on The Imaginarium Of Dr Parnassus which features Christopher Plummer, the late Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.

Chartier is riding high following Anchor Bay's $3.5m Sundance acquisition of North American and Australian rights to David Mackenzie's LA hustler drama Spread starring Ashton Kutcher, while Summit Entertainment is preparing to release Kathryn Bigelow's war thriller The Hurt Locker, which Chartier produced with Shapiro.

Voltage will also talk to buyers here about Big Eyes, the drama about artist Margaret Keane starring Kate Hudson that is set to go in May, and the Steven Seagal action title A Dangerous Man that starts shooting on March 1. Chartier will also unveil eight minutes of footage from George A Romero's latest zombie installment … Of The Dead, currently in post.

Hello, what's THIS?? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1371165/ Nothing much there at the moment, but if you go into Company Credits, it seems to suggest that Lionsgate are gonna be making the film!! At least we know where the cash is coming from!!

I don't really know what to do with this synopsis : http://www.voltagepictures.com/NewTitles.php?selected_title=65
It's been posted by the production but it seems a bit spoiler-full... Seems to tell the whole story, basically. Can you confirm, brendon ? Or is it just the introduction ?

Of course is impossible now, but i would like to know if exist an official confirm/denied about this date.

In the latest times things about Terry's projects seems all top-secret (that's why my question/s..)

It is far from impossible that it starts shooting on the 1st. For all we know, it will. Or won't.

We'll only find out when some trade paper wants to tell us.

Here is what can be read on Nicola Pecorini's homepage ( http://www.nicolapecorini.com/home.html ) : "spring 2009 update: Paolo Virzì’s project La prima Cosa Bella that will start principal photography in Livorno, Italy on May 11th "
That may say (unless Gilliam is working with another DP but I highly doubt it) that "Zero Theorem" has been delayed from a month or more (or more more...). If it doesn't get made, I hope that Parnassus get acclaimed enough so that Gilliam could go with his great projects : Quixote, Good Omens, Defective Detective...

I'd say he goes for Quixote, as Depp seems free for this summer ( as said there : http://www.philstubbs.com/dreamsboard/cgi-bin/teemz/teemz.cgi?board=_
master&action=opentopic&topic=134&forum=Future_Gilliam_Projects
) but I don't know where the confirmation is...

Okay, all I can say - I think - is that Zero Theorem may one day happen, but not right now. Gilliam seems to be close to getting Quixote going again so he didn't commit to ZT. And, apparently, he's spending a lot of time and energy sorting Quixote right now.

It looks, from all signs, that Quixote will go into production next.

And the people I spoke to would know. But I can't say who they are.

Actually it seems that "Zero Theorem" is cancelled for good (meaning that Gilliam won't return to it after Quixote). At least he answered "yes" when he was asking if the project was dead in the water, and added that he never felt quite well about the movie (apparently the money was hard to find or something like that). This comes from an interview (made during Cannes film festival) from the last issue of the french magazine "Brazil" (yes, that's its name).
