I got this from thedigitalbits.com

"And Sony has revealed that The Adventures of Baron Munchausen: 20th Anniversary Edition will debut on Blu-ray Disc on 4/8. Special features will include a BD Java "graphics and picture track," audio commentary with director Terry Gilliam & co-writer/actor Charles McKeown, The Madness and Misadventures of Munchausen 3-part documentary, 3 featurettes (As We Once Dreamed It, A Voyage to the Moon and The Baron & Bucephalos Charge the Turkish Gates) and deleted scenes."

It sounds like the commentary will be a different one from the Criterion laserdisc, and it's lacking a few of the Criterion features, but this sounds like a darn good package. I hope I can afford to upgrade to hi-def sometime soon...

Amazon.com is currently holding a contest for customers to choose the cover art for the DVD from among three given options, all of which are horrendously ugly:

I'm immensely excited about the DVD anyway.

Oh good, it'll be available on regular DVD, too.

Jesus, why isn't there an option for "none of the above"? I think the Japanese Superbit DVD is the only release that's ever had sort of decent artwork (only because it uses poster art). The old VHS cover was OK, too.

Ummm, I guess I'm going to pick the third choice.

The titles of the featurettes seem to say that they will be about the storyboarded parts that had never been shot (the original moon sequence for example)...
Does somebody know if a region 2 edition will be available, too ? with the same material ?

Why don't they just use one of the original poster designs? Much nicer. Still, it's exciting that we'll be getting a new DVD, even if it isn't a longer cut of the movie.

Yep, a Region 2 is imminent. Hoorah!

Another point for Blu-Ray over HD-DVD.

I was a little partial to this cover:

Though now I'm kicking myself for buying it a few months ago.
